An article in the International Journal of Pharmacy and Life Sciences discusses the role of herbal medicinal plants in the treatment of breast cancer. Research indicates that herbal medicines are not only effective in treating breast cancer but also provide important avenues for breast cancer therapy research. Herbal plants are considered to cause fewer complications and have lower dependency risks compared to synthetic drugs. The main reasons for the popularity of herbal medicines among breast cancer patients include improving quality of life, supporting conventional cancer treatment, preventing recurrence, and extending lifespan.

Various herbal plants have been tested for their anti-cancer activities, including antofine and acutiaporberine. Compounds isolated from these plants include various alkaloids, coumarins, polyphenols, quinones, dandelion, Vinca rosea, triterpenoids, and polysaccharides. Some formulations used in clinical trials have been combined with chemotherapy to prevent or reduce the side effects of synthetic drugs. This research indicates that herbal medicines have great potential in supporting breast cancer therapy and can provide valuable insights for further research.

Herbal medicinal plants such as Astragalus (Huang Qi) and the Berberis family have shown promising results in cancer research. For example, Astragalus is known as an immune system booster that helps the body identify abnormal cells. Research at MD Anderson Cancer Center suggests that taking Astragalus during radiotherapy can double survival time. Therefore, the use of herbal medicinal plants as adjunct therapy in breast cancer treatment can provide significant benefits and is worthy of further investigation.
